After the first bylaw review meeting, we have three ideas that could be implemented:

  • A brother may be placed on bad standing by a majority vote of exec AND a 2/3rds vote of the brotherhood in house meeting.
  • A brother may be removed from bad standing by a simple majority vote of the house OR exec.
  • A brother who has missed more than 50% of house meetings and Fraternal Business Hours without excuse in a two month period will automatically be considered in bad standing.

Please review the definition of bad standing within the National Bylaws/Constitution. We have to be a little careful about it I think.

As for the 1st bullet I disagree, Exec should be able to place the brother in bad standing. If there is disagreement by the brotherhood they have the ability to overturn the decsion of exec.

Bad standing should come with a set of goals/ways a brother be removed, it also should not be easier to remove them than to put them on it.

The process for putting Brothers on bad standing for failure to pay dues is unclear. Please clarify.

Based on discussion in bylaw review, the proposal will change from simple majority in exec AND 2/3rds vote of the house to simple majority in both exec and the house.
